The North Shore’s newest luxury resort with roots that run a century deep.
With modern luxury like this, you’d never guess that Surfside on Lake Superior has roots that run nearly a
century deep.
Built in 1928, the original Surfside Resort operated as a scenic, seasonal side business for the county’s superintendent of schools. When Gloria and Rick Noren came across the resort in 1963, the entrepreneurial couple fell in love. After purchasing the business, they set to work restoring and running the aging resort.
In 2005, after turning Surfside into a true family owned and operated business, Gloria sold the business to Bluefin Bay owner and general manager, Dennis Rysdahl. Two years later, Dennis and his partner broke ground on what would become the shore’s most luxurious resort and destination spa. With granite, vast expanses of glass, stainless steel and unparalleled comfort, today’s buildings bear little resemblance to the cabins of 1928. But the North Shore spirit and the commitment to providing guests with warm and friendly hospitality remains.
Surfside was the first Lutsen-Tofte property to sell luxury townhomes via the shared ownership concept, making it practical and affordable to own a piece of the greatest lake in the world. Today, we are delighted to welcome more than 20 Surfside owners and countless guests to this breathtaking property.
We call it Surfside on Lake Superior. You’ll call it unforgettable.
